Lymphocyte % 17% — what does it mean?
Share of immune cells that are the repair kind
- What most labs call normal
- 20–40%
- Where you actually want to sit
- 30–40%
What this test is
The percentage of your white blood cells that are the adaptive, repair-minded kind.
What your number means
30–40% is where you want to be, and under 25% is the flag. This share falls naturally with age, so holding it up is a genuinely good sign. A single low reading while you’re unwell is normal and bounces back.
Why it matters
A healthy share reflects a young, capable immune system; this proportion tends to fall as immunity ages.
Of all your white cells, the lymphocytes are the clever, learning, repair-minded ones. This percentage tells you how much of your immune crew is that high-skill kind versus the more basic first-responders.
What to do about it
Treat this as a companion to your immune balance ratio rather than a target of its own. The things that improve that — sleep, lower inflammation, enough protein and zinc — improve this too.
Where it sits in your Body Age
Lymphocyte % (of WBC) is one of the tests behind Immune Strength — How fresh and capable your immune defences are right now. It is one of four areas that together give a single number: the age your body reads, next to the age on your birth certificate.
This page explains what a blood test measures. It is not a medical diagnosis and cannot tell you what your own result means for you — take that to a doctor.
